How is your first road to the consulting journey?

I had my first taste of consulting through the GBUS2010 course. From there, I was prompted to take GBUS3030 and join international case competitions, which led me to founding the HKUST Case Analysis Team. It became apparent to me that the lifestyle of consulting was something I found enjoyable and that the environment of management consulting was most suitable for me.

Why did you go for an MBA after a few years in consulting?

Pursuing an MBA was an encouraged pathway in consulting, and I received a lot of support from my colleagues and supervisors. My consulting firm was even willing to sponsor me to do an MBA on condition that I return to the firm, though I did not take this offer. On a personal note, I felt that moment in my career was the right time to explore more things. Doing an MBA gave me the chance to validate whether education was the right industry for me to further find my vision in life. Also, the MBA made me think about what roles I could play to improve the education space and contribute to Hong Kong.

Do you have any advice for GBUSers on navigating their university life and future career?

For me, I find it very helpful when looking back and considering ikigai, the intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs and what you can be paid for. The constant exploration of where that intersection lies is definitely something that I encourage each person to pursue.

What do you like most about your job?

I think it is a very fulfilling feeling when you no longer see work as work, because what is most satisfying is what you do day to day is aligned with a sense of purpose. For me, my latest purpose is creating and being a part of the breeding space where young people could be empowered in making mindful choices for their future. My job currently is through schooling and collaboration with principals and teachers, to create those safe spaces for students and so I find it very fulfilling.
